Arkan al-Ma’had dalam Sistem Pendidikan Pesantren

The Arkan al-Ma'had (Islam ic Boarding School) are the basic elements that form the foundation of education in Islam ic boarding schools (pesantren). As traditional Islam ic educational institutions, Islam ic boarding schools possess unique characteristics that distinguish them from other educational institutions, integrating educational, social, and religious functions into a single system. This study aims to analyze the Arkan al-Ma'had, which includes the Kyai (Islam ic cleric), students (santri), mosque or musholla (prayer room), Islam ic text study (kitab kuning), and dormitory, as the main elements of the Islam ic boarding school education system. The research method used was library research, reviewing various relevant literature sources. The results of the study indicate that these five arkans have interrelated and inseparable roles. The Kyaiserves as the central figure and leader of the Islam ic boarding school, the students as the subjects of education, the mosque as the center of worship and learning activities, Islam ic text study (kitab kuning) as the primary source of Islam ic knowledge, and the dormitory as a means of fostering the students' character and discipline. Thus, the Arkan al-Ma'had serves as the primary foundation for maintaining the existence and sustainability of Islam ic boarding schools as unique Islam ic educational institutions deeply rooted in society.
