Abstract

Teacher competence is an essential factor in improving educational quality because teachers are responsible not only for transferring knowledge but also for developing students’ character and values. Islamic education views teachers as educators who integrate intellectual, moral, social, and spiritual dimensions. The story of Prophet Musa and Khidr in Surah Al-Kahfi verses 60–82 presents a Qur’anic educational model regarding the ideal relationship between teacher and student. This study aims to analyze teacher competency values contained in Surah Al-Kahfi verses 60–82 based on Ibn Kathir’s interpretation and examine their relevance to teacher competencies in Indonesian education. This research uses a qualitative approach through library research. Primary sources consist of the Qur’an and Tafsir Ibn Kathir, while secondary sources include Islamic education literature, scientific journals, and educational regulations. The data were analyzed using content analysis. The findings indicate that the story of Musa and Khidr contains four teacher competency values. Pedagogical competence is reflected in understanding students’ characteristics, gradual learning strategies, and experiential learning. Personality competence appears through integrity, patience, humility, wisdom, and spiritual maturity. Social competence is shown through educational communication, empathy, and concern for humanity. Professional competence is reflected through mastery of knowledge, scientific authority, and professional responsibility. These values strengthen teacher competency standards in Indonesia by integrating professional, moral, and spiritual dimensions.
